During these trying times, it is essential we support our favourite small businesses and overall, think a bit more about where our dollar is being spent. For freelancers, creatives and many casual staff who play a role in the art industry, the global crisis has brought a fair amount of instability and uncertainty when it comes to profiting from their artwork.

A Newcastle artist with a playful and colourful style that depicts the Australian landscape in a smudgy and loose representation. Has your upcoming trip to Italy been postponed due to a global pandemic? Although that’s a terrible shame, Gabrielle’s work feels just like a dip in the waters along Cinque Terre- colourful, spirited and full of joy! From her still lifes to landscape pieces, she’s able to create scenes that transcend beyond the canvas and bring you into a world of travel, history and culture.

This Sydney-based artist’s works are expressive interpretations of the world around us. These works present a simplistic yet colourful practice with an emphasis on creating an image through initial observation and shape. In 2019 alone, she received several notable honours including, the highly praised award for the Paddington Art Prize, was a finalist in the Art Gallery of New South Wales Wynne Prize and was included in the Sydney Contemporary Art Fair exhibition.

Better known as ‘Captain’ Elise Cameron Smith, this exuberant artist has been crafting her fanciful wooden sculptures since 2013, creating pieces that encourage the adventurer inside us all. This sculptor/miniature boat builder/furniture-maker has a variety of quirky yet elegant pieces that are an awe to admire.

Originally from Perth, this Sydney-based artist works across painting, photography, installation, video and performance. His projects focus on his interest of young Muslims within the contemporary multicultural Australian context and the prejudice and stereotypes Muslims face in a post 9/11 world.

Born from the idea that large-scale modern art doesn’t need to be overpriced, Sydney artists Tom Burden and Rae Sturm launched Cascade Street Studios in November 2019.
